Catapult Summer Learning Experience at JCC Day Camp

To help compensate for the loss of learning that many students have experienced during the pandemic, the JCC of Staten Island’s Day Camp is partnering with Catapult Learning to provide an optional summer learning program, at no additional cost to you.

Campers who opt in to the Summer Learning Experience will receive 2 weekly instruction sessions—one math and one literacy—taught by highly qualified staff. Instruction will take place at our campgrounds during the camp day, in small groups based on age. Campers will observe social distancing and follow other CDC guidelines as described in our camp manual.

The program will be open to campers entering 1st grade (Nitzan) up through those entering 9th grade (Teen Travel), as well as Marvin’s campers. Capacity is limited and campers will be enrolled in this program on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Summer Learning Experience has been funded through the generosity of a grant from UJA-Federation, which will allow us to provide this service to our campers free of charge.

Hey there, Weekly Schmooze author! I just read your article about the Catapult Summer Learning Experience and I have to say, it sounds amazing. As someone who has always been passionate about education and learning, I think it's great to see programs like this that help students continue to grow and thrive even during their summer break.

One thing that really stood out to me about this program is the emphasis on project-based learning. I think that's such a valuable approach to education because it allows students to engage with the material in a hands-on way and really apply what they're learning to real-world situations. Plus, as you mentioned, it can be a lot more engaging and fun for students than just sitting in a classroom listening to lectures.

I also appreciate that the Catapult program seems to have a strong focus on community and connection. It's so important for students to feel supported and connected to their peers and mentors, especially during a time when they might be feeling isolated or disconnected due to the pandemic. It sounds like the program is really intentional about creating a sense of community and providing opportunities for students to connect with one another, which I think is really fantastic.

Overall, I think the Catapult Summer Learning Experience sounds like an incredible opportunity for students who are passionate about learning and want to continue growing and exploring during their summer break. Thanks for sharing about it in your article!
