Swim Program

The JCC Lillian Schwartz Day camp offers campers swim twice daily under the direction of the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy.  Lenny Krayzelburg is a four time Olympic gold Medalist who started a swim program in 2005.  He has taught water safety to thousands of children and educated them on the importance of knowing how to swim.

Krayzelburg utilizes the SwimRight Method, which has the swim-float-swim technique as its foundation, and focuses on providing campers with confidence and safety in and around the water.  Campers are taken from the beginning stages of swimming and progress to all four major strokes – freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. As campers master new skills, they are recorded on a swim card which is given to parents at the end of the summer so that parents are aware of their child’s progress.

Jewish Life

Throughout the JCC Camp, Jewish life is linked to fun and joy.  For that reason, we offer experiential, hands-on, interactive and spirited Jewish themed activities.  Thus, children, experience Judaism through activities like singing songs, baking challah bread, playing games, competing in trivia contests, listening to stories and celebrating the coming of Shabbat on Fridays with spirited camp wide Friday celebrations.

A positive connection to the people and the land of Israel is fostered by employing shlichim, young Israeli counselors who share their knowledge and love for Israel with the children.  Our camp calendar also includes an Israeli Day celebration and a musical concert performed by the Israel Caravan.

The Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), gimilut Chasidim (acts of kindness), and tzedakah (charitable giving) are promoted throughout the camp season and culminates in a community service event during which campers are given the opportunity to give back the community.

In short, we offer experiences that emphasize the joy and values of Judaism and that creates an environment where children through positive Jewish encounters feel connected to the Jewish people and the world around them and experience the warmth of a caring community.

Medication Policy

Qualified health care providers are on site at all times.  If your child has special medical needs that you would like to discuss with our medical staff, please contact the Camp Office prior to opening day.

The JCC Camp of Staten Island, in keeping with NY State regulations, has established the following policies and procedures regarding the administration of medication during the camp day.

Medications shall include all over the counter (non-prescription) medications as well as medications available only by prescription.  All medications will be kept in the camp nursing office.  No medications are to be kept or administered by campers or counselors.

Exceptions are campers who are approved for self-administration by our nursing staff and your physician.

Each medication must be properly labeled.  Pharmacy labels are required for all prescriptions. You can request your pharmacist to place each prescription medication into two (2) labeled containers: one for the camp nurse and one for home use.  Over the counter medication must be sent in the original container with the camper’s name written on it.

Medications are to be turned into the camp nursing staff along with the Medication Permission Authorization forms.  The forms must be completed and must include signatures by both parent/guardian and physician as well as a physician’s stamp.  Medications will not be administered without a completed form.

All medications and Medication Permission Authorization forms (except medications for late stays and overnights) are to be turned in prior to the beginning of camp.  Medications and forms are to be handed in together.  Neither medications nor forms will be accepted separately.
